History

Over 3000 participants have joined the discussions since the Rolduc Polymer Meetings were started in 1985. Over the years these meetings, known for their intensive debates on up-to-date topics, have retained their intimate character. The meetings owe their fame to the relaxing ambiance of the well-preserved medieval Rolduc Abbey, with very modern congress and accommodation facilities, and the active participation of industrial senior researchers and managers as well as their peers in academic research.

A few years ago, the organisers decided to come back to the original scheme and to revive the Rolduc Polymer Meetings as high level intimate discussion meetings, a key meeting in Polymer Science and Technology
The overwhelming participation confirmed to the organisers that in this Rolduc Revisited; [-R-R-]n ; they again have succeeded in attracting the right attendance for such intensive and stimulating discussions

Like the Gordon conferences, the Rolduc Polymer Meetings have found a good balance between high-level discussion on cutting-edge research and relaxation in an age-old setting. Away from the city pressure there is ample opportunity for private chats in one of the Abbey winecellars, during a walk in the Abbey's park, during the conference dinner in a nearby castle or after the music performance.

Themes that have been discussed in previous meetings are:

  • Integration of Polymer Science and Technology
  • Chain of Knowledge for the Development of Polymer Materials
  • Specialty Polymer Materials
  • Polymer Synthesis for advanced Processing
  • Polymer Structure and its Characterisation
  • Polymer Blends and Advanced Processing
  • Smart Polymer Materials
  • Properties and Performance of Polymer Composites
  • Rise and Decline of High Performance Polymers
  • ‘Petro-polymers’ vs ‘Green Polymers’
  • From macromolecular structures to functional polymer systems
  • Bio-related Polymers/Polymers in Medicine
  • Nano-structured Polymer Materials
